Lifestyle And Book Blogging – A Change In Direction

Hi everyone,

I have been AWOL for a little while, due to being pretty sick, as well as trying to overhaul Miss Fiercely Independent into a website, that serves you the best.

Because I primarily blog (if I am not on this site), about books (my book blog is Within The Pages Of A Book), and Lifestyle (Avalon-Media.org), I have decided to write here on MFI about the experiences and lessons I have learned by running a lifestyle and book blog.

What You Can Expect From Miss Fiercely Independent Blog

  1. Topics related to running a lifestyle blog – such as organizing a blog, finding topics, working with genre-specific sponsors, monetizing a lifestyle blog
  2. Topics related to running a book blog – such as how to write a better review, getting in contact with book tours, where to get books from, monetizing a book blog – and more
  3. How to promote your blog
  4. How to make money off your blog, to create an independent (perhaps even full-time) income
  5. How to expand your brand – there is more to blogging than just writing on your blog, if you want to turn it into a business
  6. How to juggle running multiple blogs

And more!

Because I think it is related to just about any content-creating business, I will also write on occasion about eBook publishing.

So stay tuned for some exciting new content, and please be patient with me, as I am creating a new, more regular posting schedule for MFI.

Blessings!

Utilize Facebook Social And Blog Share Groups (Part 1) + Facebook Support Group List!

blogging tips, social media support, blogging support

If you are looking to expand your reach, get your content shared more often, and are interested in increasing your comments, I highly recommend that you join facebook groups in which members share each other’s posts on social media, as well as leave comments.

You should, however, follow a few rules before engaging in these groups:

  1. Most groups have specific days for specific threads. For example, some groups only allow you to share your blog posts on a specific day, while there are other days for comment threads, or facebook support threads. Become familiar with each groups thread posting time, so that you do not violate group policies
  2. Read the group description thoroughly! Many of these groups have very specific rules, such as the above-mentioned threads, or when you can ask for advice. Make sure that you are familiar with them, and do not confuse the rules if you are joining multiple groups
  3. Share other people’s content. Some groups require that you share or comment on each of the members participating in the individual threads, while others require you to share/comment on a specific number of member posts. Follow these instructions, and do not skip through a thread, even if you might not get caught. It is simply the polite thing to do, and it helps each member of the group to increase their reach.
  4. Leave meaningful comments. If you are participating in comment threads, be kind and leave thoughtful comments. I have seen groups that require a certain word count or have specific rules for comments, but even in those groups who do not have those types of rules, you should give your best comments.
  5. Only participate in some of the threads, in order not to get overwhelmed. It takes quite a bit of time to share content, and visit other people’s blogs and sites. Don’t commit to threads that you can not follow through.

Building Your Online Audience: When and How Often to Email Your Subscriber List

email marketing, marketing

Email marketing can feel like a very tricky subject for someone new to the online marketing world. But, by considering a few factors and pre-scheduling your content, it is relatively easy to create an effective content marketing schedule.

When to Email: Days of the Week

For having your emails read, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays tend to work well for a professional audience.

On the weekends, most professionals either don’t check their emails, or check their emails but only skim non-essential emails. It’s their days off, after all.Fridays they’re looking forward to the weekend and Mondays they’re just getting back into the groove of work. Therefore, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays tend to work well.

Related Post: Top 5 Email Marketing Tips For Unbeatable Subject Lines

On the other hand, for a non-professional audience, the best open rates can often be the reverse. On weekends they’re less likely to check their emails because they’re out with friends, while on weekdays they have more time to read emails carefully. As for sales emails, marketers often find that Sundays work well for conversions. People tend to do more active activities on Saturday and spend Sundays in a more leisurely way, often browsing the internet and may be more susceptible to a great sales effort.

Another tip is to time your sales emails to be a day or two after payday, on the 1st and 15th of each month. At these times people have a bit of spare cash that they may feel more willing to part with. The 15th, 16th and 17th are especially good dates because your readers are getting paychecks, without having to also pay end-of-the-month bills that the paycheck on the 1st usually comes with.

Building Your Online Audience: When and How Often to Email Your Subscriber List

When to Send Your Email: Time of Day

In general, it is best to send your emails either early in the morning or after work.

If you send your emails early in the morning, time it so your readers receives your emails before 7 am Eastern Standard Time. That way, when they check their emails as they get to work in the morning, your email will be in their inbox.

Alternatively, you can wait for people to get home before delivering your email. In that case, aim for your emails to be delivered around 5 pm.

Having your emails delivered in the middle of a work day is generally a bad idea. People are busy and will either not read the email, or just briefly skim it before deleting it. Aim for times when people have a bit more attention to devote to reading your emails.

How Often Should You Email Your List?

How often you send your emails depends on the length of your emails, the commitment of your list and your personal ability to consistently generate quality content. If your emails are relatively short, your list wants to hear what you have to say and you have the time to produce a ton of content, then you can email as often as five times a week.

On the other hand, if you tend to produce long emails (or videos), or your list is subscribed to many other lists and just reads yours in a cursory way and you personally don’t love generating content, then you might just want to email once a week. There are successful lists that don’t email very often at all, as well as successful lists that email very often. The best frequency depends more on you and your list than any specific rule of thumb.

Building Your Online Audience: When and How Often to Email Your Subscriber List #marketingtips Click To Tweet

When and how often to email are two things you’ll want to think about before you even start your list. Once you start emailing, people will generally expect the same frequency and perhaps even delivery times. So make your choices early on and stick to them, so people can get used to receiving content from you at specific intervals.

The keys are to know your audience, be familiar with the standards of your niche, and be ready to consistent with your efforts.

22 Tips To Rock LinkedIn!

social media tips, marketing tips, LinkedIn

LinkedIn is one of those social media platforms that seems a lot more complicated than it really is.  There are however some rules that make your success on the platform more likely. In order for you to learn how to make the most out of Linkedin for your professional and business success, I have collected 22 tips to help you master this social media site.

It’s All In The Profile

  1. Have a professional, headshot only image as your profile image. Make sure that what you are wearing, and your background reflects your niche, and the niche standard. So a lifestyle blogger may have family images in the background, while someone working with tech should have a more “professional” look to the image.
  2. Make sure you use the right keywords in your profile, that fit your niche, in order to rank higher.
  3. Add a call to action to your summary. You can simply state something like: Connect with me on Wealthy Affiliate, by following this link, or tell people to check out your blog/website.
  4. Don’t forget to add contact info to your profile.
22 Tips To Rock Linkedin! Click To Tweet

Linkedin Dont’s

  1. Don’t send spammy messages to your followers. You will be ignored.
  2. Don’t send spammy status updates. Instead, post articles and info related to your niche, and engage.
  3. Don’t engage in negative commenting. This is a professional network, not Facebook, where negative commenting is more acceptable – but even there you should not do that.
  4. Don’t post messages to groups that are not relevant to the group’s mission.
  5. Don’t ask new followers to endorse you. Allow them to get to know you first.
  6. Don’t use buzzwords. Words like Creative, passionate, driven and related words should not be used on Linkedin. Instead, write the way you would talk, but keep it short and to the point.

Increase Engagement

  1. Share industry news on a regular basis
  2. Ask questions related to content you posted
  3. Follow the same rules of commenting on the status of others, as you would with blog comments, meaning make it personal, make it relating the content shared, and make it more than just a few words.
  4. Directly ask for endorsements, and offer them in return, but only from those with whom you already had a relationship with – not your new followers.

Linkedin Longform Posts

  1. 22 Tips To Rock LinkedIn!Create a publishing schedule. Just like with your blog, regularly publishing a post, preferably on the same day every week, or every other week will make people look for your post.
  2. The ideal length of long form Linkedin posts is 600 to 1200 words.
  3. Include images. Just like with a blog post, make sure that you include engaging images into your post.
  4. Include a link to your website, services, or a social media platform within the content, or at the end of the content to increase further engagement.

Increase Following:

  1. Use the alumni feature for your high school and college to connect with more people
  2. Do not just simply use the standard connection request, but rather add some personal words to increase your chances of being accepted
  3. Take a moment to look at the profile of people who have looked at your profile. This is how you find out who looked at your profile: Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage, click View profile, and select Who’s Viewed Your Profile. Beneath your profile photo on the left rail of your homepage, click the number above Who’s viewed your profile.
  4. Be active. Spend 5 minutes every day to connect with people on Linkedin by leaving them comments, wishing them Happy Birthday, or pointing out something of value to them. Even if it is a professional social network, it is still social, and therefore you have to make a point to be engaging and easily approachable.

I hope you enjoyed these Linkedin tips, and are able to utilize them in order to increase your business and professional goals.

Why Every Creative Entrepreneur Should Take Creative Live Classes

Finding inexpensive resources and classes that are actually worth your while, and do not leave you feeling like you have been ripped off, are hard to find. Some classes offered to newbie marketers, and entrepreneurs try to talk you into spending a lot of money upfront, enticing you that only through them can you learn the ins-and-outs of online business.

No matter if you are a creative person, with a crafting business, an artist, wanting to monetize your creations, or a small business owner, who is looking to increase their abilities on social media, Creative Live has an inexpensive, and comprehensive class for you.

Classes are available in the following categories:

  1. Photo & Video
  2. Art & Design
  3. Music & Audio
  4. Craft & Maker
  5. Money & Life

There are plenty of classes available to choose from in each of these categories. Also, via special offers, bundles, and promotions, it is easy to save quite a bit on the individual courses, which is especially wonderful when you are on a tight budget, or are new to the platform, and want to learn more without a pricey commitment.

Each course is given in video format by a very qualified instructor in their field, ranging from Lawyers to established entrepreneurs, bloggers and creative professionals. Courses often include printable resources, but that is up to the individual instructor, as well as the subject matter. You have the option to download your purchased courses or stream them on your PC or mobile device.

What I also love about the courses is that you have the opportunity to upload your coursework, sharing with other students and the instructors what you have learned throughout the given course. I like to see what other students have shared, and often find that an inspiration for my own work, or progress.

Creative Live” also offers a daily live stream of classes. If you want to get a feel for the classes offered without spending any money, you can easily watch an entire class or a section of a class live throughout the day. The website makes it easy to see which courses are scheduled to be broadcasted when, and from which instructor.

My favorite courses so far – from the ones I have taken were on Social Media Graphics, as well as on Pinterest Marketing. I will be sharing with you a detailed review of these particular classes soon, so you can see if they are a great fit for you and your business needs.

Here are some examples of classes offered throughout this month:

  1. Sell More With Instagram by Sue B. Zimmerman
  2. How Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers Master Productivity by Tim Ferriss
  3. Effective Email And Newsletter Marketing by Jeff Goins
  4. How To Create Digital Products That Sell While You Sleep by April Bowles-Olin
  5. Optimize Your Online Store by Andrea Ayers

I am happy that I chose to purchase some of these courses, and will continue to get more courses as they come up. With this ever-growing content and the highly engaged instructors, I can only recommend Creative Live for the majority of your online business needs.

Affiliate Marketing Reviews Scam Alert Uncategorized

EasyCash4Ads Review – Don’t Fall For This Cash Gifting Scheme

An acquaintance pointed out a program the other day to me, that sounded too good to be true. It was called EasyCash4Ads and he thought he found something amazing. So, as I good but skeptical friend,  I began to research the program.

Well, as usual, if something sounds too good to be true, then it usually is.

What is EasyCash4Ads?

EasyCash4Ads  talks about ad placement, and getting paid for placing ads on a sponsored site. In reality, it is a pretty simple scam, that poses as a MLM, but works like this.

  1. You pay 9 dollars to get into the program. Which I must say is pretty cheap
  2. You pay your sponsor 10 Dollars to place an ad. Still not very expensive. To be fair, they are not asking you to pay for anything else.
  3. Now you are supposed to wait for someone stupid enough to click on the add you placed, to pay the above 9 Dollars, and pay YOU THEIR SPONSOR 10 Dollars.
  4. There is no product, no service, no offer, just that.

Here is what I see wrong with this:

  1. You get essentially nothing for your 19 dollars.
  2. Your job is to try to trick other people into paying 19 dollars so that you can make 10. Basically, you are scamming people to fall for the same scam you fell for.
  3. This system is called cash-gifting, which is twelve steps worse than MLM, and I have my reservations about MLM businesses, and I will point out more about those in future posts.

What is Cash-Gifting?

In a nutshell, it is what is says it is – you give someone, a stranger, in this case, the person who ripped you off, money for no reason. That is what keeps it legal.

Now, I said legal, but not ethical.

There are plenty of affiliate programs out there, for marketers to sell real products, with real value. Two examples of that would be Wealthy Affiliate and 67Steps. You are actually receiving a product when you sign up – in both cases, well-thought-out educational content, that you can turn into marketable skills. EasyCash4Ads gives you nothing, absolutely nothing, but a wishful thinking that someone might see that link of yours, so you can give them no value either.

So this is my verdict:

EasyCash4Ads  is SCAM!

Now, I just have to break it to the above-mentioned friend.

What you should buy instead:

If you are looking to make money online, I have a few options, you might want to consider, before wasting your money on programs such as EasyCash4Ads

My legit suggestions:

  1. For visual and digital artists: sell your art on Zazzle and RedBubble.
  2. For those who want to learn Affiliate Marketing and make money with reputable companies, such as Amazon, Target, Walmart, and more, join Wealthy Affiliate
  3. For those who are trying to learn more about online business in general, but like the idea of earning discounted or free membership, check out the extensive course material on Fizzle

All three of these methods and many more which I review here are legit programs that offer actual products and services, bring value to you, and give you the opportunity make money as their affiliate partner.

If you want to know about those programs I mentioned, check out the following articles:

Artists – Don’t Make These Marketing Mistakes

Artists – Don’t Make These Marketing Mistakes

In order to make a living from your art, it is important to develop some online business and marketing skills. While this might sound like a something you do not find much interest in, I highly suggest that you should reconsider your viewpoint, in order to take your artistic creations from a mere hobby to a sustainable way to make a living.

Related Article: Selling Art Online

  1. Making art without considering your target audience. While it is wonderful to make art, based on inspiration, rather than on thinking about who might want to purchase it, if you have a particular target audience in mind, you can create according to what they would potentially purchase, and work to deliberately create the emotional response that they are looking for. While this might not be something you have ever considered before, you should embrace the fact that making a living from your art is similar to creating a product. It needs to fulfill a need, and value to your intended audience.
  2. Using social media only to talk about your own art pieces. In order to create a following, showcase your art and products, you need to engage people on social media. Social media is mostly social, once you have quality followers that care about your opinion and voice, you can begin selling them your art pieces, but never span – keep your content to 20 percent your own work 80 percent valuable information and social interaction related to your niche and target audience
  3. marketing for artists, marketing tipsNot learning basic business principles. Again, if you are a hobby artist, who only makes art because they enjoy creating art, disregard this. But because you are reading this article, I am going to assume that you want to make money off your art. Therefore, learning basic online business practices, such as how to set up and market a website, how to use social media efficiently, how to write a business plan, and how to build a following (as well as many other aspects), is essential.
  4. Not utilizing communities and forums. For every niche, every type of art, there are online communities out there to be discovered. Research forums and communities for an artist, as well as those who appreciate art, and get active. Not only will you learn from more experienced artists on how to make money, but you will get emotional support.

By following these simple tips your chances of making a living from your art, no matter which medium you choose to express yourself.

Choosing The Right Blogging Platform And Host For Your Blog – Blogging 101

Choosing The Right Blogging Platform And Host For You

Once you have chosen your niche your next most important decision when creating an affiliate marketing income is your blogging platform. There are many free and paid opportunities out there, each one of them having their own pro’s and con’s, which I want to highlight for you today.

Free Hosting Platforms

The following platforms are completely free and do not include the free versions of premium hosting services and platforms available.

Choosing The Right Blogging Platform For You - Blogging 101 #blogtips Click To Tweet

WordPress.com
This platform is not to be confused with wordpress.org, which needs a web host such as Siterubix, or Hostgator.  Wordpress.com offers responsive, yet basic free themes, as well as potential upgrades you can purchase – such as a  domain name, and premium themes. The downside is, that you can not add any plug-ins that are essential to monetizing your blog or site. This limits your ability to use this platform as a money making business and is therefore not a platform I suggest you should use.

Blogger
Blogger is similar to WordPress.com, as it is free, and allows you to upgrade your site for money. It is however, a little less restricted when it comes to making money. I don’t like the free themes available for Blogger as much as WordPress. They have a little bit of an “old school” feel to it, but you can change that with a little bit of coding knowledge. It is a decent place for a blog, but can not keep up with the more professional WordPress self-hosted sites, Shopify or even Wix

Related Post: How Book Bloggers Make Money

Paid Hosting Platform

Shopify
If you are looking to create an eCommerce site, Shopify is the best way to go. This platform is easy to turn into a responsive online shop and has visually pretty themes, that are easy to work with. You do not need to know anything about programming in order to set up your site, and the support is friendly and fast.

Weebly
While this website makes beautiful sites, it is not as effective in creating a responsive eCommerce site as Shopify. Yet, it is easy to use, with plenty of design options that make designing an individual unique site easy. No need to know anything about coding, unlike WordPress.org sites, you do not have to worry about installing your site, and the support is also very good, and always willing to help.

HostGator
One of my two favorite hosts for WordPress.org sites. Competitively priced, with great service, and plenty of potential add-ons, as well as the opportunity to buy domain names, domain emails, and other premium services. HostGator is the cheapest way to start building an effective WordPress.org site out there.

SiteRubix
SiteRubix is an all-inclusive webhosting service for WordPress.org sites. You can host up to 25 sites at a time, for one price, which also includes domain email, 24-hour site support and monitoring, free themes, and most importantly it  includes access to the Wealthy Affiliate Universities business building lessons. I host all of my sites there, simply because it makes economical sense, because I don’t have to purchase seperate services for each of my five websites. Not everyone needs this type of support, but I highly recommend this option for someone new to online marketing, or monetizing a blog.

Question: Which platform are you using currently for your blog/website? What are your favorite aspects of the platform you are using? Share your answers with the community below!

Off Topic: Taking A Stand Against Hate

Today, I am dedicating this space to protesting the many downright dangerous, and malice policies that Donald Trump has enacted over the last few days.

I can not stand by while, he is destroying our environment, takes away the right of women to choose, and bans people from entering the US.

This blog was created because I want to foster financial independence for women who otherwise would depend on their husbands for financial support. It is based on standing up, being fiercely independent from those who may have the power to oppress you. This is dangerous and fosters an environment of potential abuse. I am speaking from personal experience.

Donald Trump is suppressing the rights of human beings who deserve to be treated fairly. Not all terrorists are foreigners or Muslim. He is feeding into the fear of undereducated people, feeding into those who already have the seed of superiority within them.

In my eyes, Donald Trump did not win this election. More people – legally – voted against him, then for him, and this gives me hope. More people are standing up, uniting, demonstrating and making their voices heard. I proudly join their ranks.

If it costs me followers, then I bid those farewell. Our missions did not align anyway.

Over the next few days, I will be speaking up more. Not just on this platform but also on my other blogs, and all over social media.

I am not going to be silent.

I am a part of the resistance.

Use Tumblr to Create Affiliate And eCommerce Sales: 5 Tips

Tubmlr tips, affiliate marketing, eCommerce, sales, marketing tips

Is your target audience a millennial? Then you should not overlook the power of Tumblr to create affiliate commissions and eCommerce sales.
But in order to succeed on that platform, consider a few points, to effectively navigate on this unique platform.

1. Tumblr is a micro-blogging platform.
Essentially this means, you should not try to use it for long-form content, but rather create visual, short, and entertaining content that is easily shareable and grabs the attention of your reader instantly.

2. Tag your images properly
If you are still not using the alt tags on your images, you are doing yourself a disservice. This is even more important on a visual platform such as Tumblr. Always describe your images effectively in order for them to be picked up on Google images.

Use Tumblr to Create Affiliate And eCommerce Sales: 5 Tips Click To Tweet

3. Proper amount of tags
Like Instagram, there is an appropriate amount of tags to be used for each post. For twitter it is three, for Instagram it is up to 30, and in Tumblr, the perfect amount is 7 to 12 hashtags. Any amount above that is considered spam.

4. Choose your name wisely
Spend some time on deciding which name fits your brand the best, but also speaks to your audience. I highly suggest that you look through the most popular Tumblr, and see what types of names work best with the millennial audience. If you are not a part of that age group yourself, I also suggest that you should run the idea by a few millennial friends, or your do a survey on one of your social media platforms that mainly focuses on this age group in order to find the perfect name for your brand.

5. Connect emotionally
Your audience is not looking for a constant display of items they should be purchasing, but rather an emotional connection with your content. Make them care about what you write about the content you promote and most importantly make them care about your opinion. Give them a reason to choose to go to your Tumblr over all of the other ones out there. The best way to do that is to evoke strong emotions.
