Great article, but my perspective is a bit different. My wife and I recently launched a subscription box at featuring candles and ceramics bowls made by artisans in The Land of Israel. As part of our sales efforts, I’m pitching collaboration with people running blogs related to meditation, yoga, massage and home decor. We have coupon codes that give readers 20% off on our subscription boxes. In exchange, we pay bloggers a royalty of $3/month per active subscriber gained through the coupon code. (With a regular royalty stream of $3600 per year for every 100 customers brought in, this can add up nicely.) I’m also pitching this as a fundraiser for churches, synagogues and other groups. What do you think? Is $3/month/subscriber enough commission to pay? Maybe we need to have a bigger payout at the beginning? Do you like working through ShareASale? Maybe there’s a better affiliate network to use? Thanks! We’re just getting started, so I appreciate any input or guidance you’d be willing to give.

      Hi Dan!

I have a variety of questions in order to assist you further:
Do your subscription boxes only contain one bowl and one candle?
      Do you offer free shipping?
Is that royalty stream established or estimated?
      What is your website traffic?
How many active subscribers to you have?
How long has your company been established?

Those are all questions, I would like to know from any subscription company I would work with, and would advise anyone to ask/research.

Now, with that information, I, as a potential affiliate, can make a decision if I would want to work with you. To be honest with you, for a fundraiser your price, even with the discount, and even if you offered free shipping, which is not clear from your website, would be too much, unless you offer a significant discount.

If you want to get more detailed advise tailored to your website, contact me via for a free email consultation.

Wow! Thank you Claudia! I will be in touch by email from, but I will also answer your questions here, for the benefit of anybody else following this thread. Each month, the subscription box contains 1 bowl and 1 candle, but we also include, as a surprise, little decorative extras, such as shells, stones, sea glass, etc., which can be used as decorative accents with the bowl/candle combo. Shipping from Israel to anywhere in the world is set at $6. I commit to a royalty stream of $3/month/subscriber, but I’m not sure what you mean by established/estimated. We’re just getting started, so website traffic is low. According to my dashboard at, I have 393 unique impressions since launching last month. We currently have 8 active subscribers. Although we just launched the subscription business, we’ve been selling through Etsy for years at Thank you again and all the best, Dan

Awesome post Claudia! I’ve seen subscriptions boxes around, but I never knew some of these existed. I’m actually looking around for some programs for my own food blog, and I’ll be checking out some of these for sure. Do you know of any that sends things that are low carb or sugar free? I’d be very interested in finding something like that for my blog. Thanks!

    • Claudia Blanton Aug 9,2016 at 10:00 pm

actually, I don’t, there are a few boxes that are gluten free out there, but i am going to dig into that. Maybe list them in a future post, thanks for the idea.
